Bikes & Classes

Note: All Classes are under review for the 2026 season

At Viper VMX we race in classes separated by the age of the bike. The classes held are listed below with the requirements of the bike.

  • Pre 1978 All Powers
    Any bike and modifications produced or specific to the period leading up to Dec 31, 1977
  • Pre 1985 All Powers
    Any bike and modifications produced or specific to the period leading up to Dec 31, 1984
  • Pre 1990 Over 45 years All Powers
    Bikes and modifications produced or specific to the period leading up to Dec 31, 1989 where the rider is age 45 years or older
  • Pre 1990 125cc
    Bikes and modifications produced or specific to the period leading up to Dec 31, 1989 to the power of 125cc
  • Pre 1990 All Powers Novice / Intermediate
    Bikes produced or specific to the period leading up to Dec 31, 1989. Note: You are only eligible to race in one or the other, NOT both. Viper VMX reserves the right to move anyone they deem intermediate from novice.
  • Pre 1997 125cc
    Bikes and modifications produced or specific to the period leading up to Dec 31, 1996 to the power of 125cc
  • Pre 1997 All Powers Novice / Intermediate
    Bikes produced or specific to the period leading up to Dec 31, 1996. Note: You are only eligible to race in one or the other, NOT both. Viper VMX reserves the right to move anyone they deem intermediate from novice.
  • 2 Stroke Open All Powers
    All 2 Stroke Vintage and modern Eras in one class
  • Modern Open All Powers
    All Modern Eras in one class

Evolution All Powers
This is per the 2025 Manual of Motorsport 9.14.6 Acceptable Machines and Components: Evolution Class Solo

Acceptable for the Evolution class are Machines and components that fall within the Post Classic
and Classic era. The only exception to this Rule is where the model remains unaltered. The use
of replica replacement components for safety reasons is permitted.

9.14.6.2 Modifications converting equipment to comply will not be allowed.
9.14.6.3 All Machines must comply with the three following conditions:

a) No linkage suspension,
b) No disc brakes,
c) Air cooled motors.

9.14.6.4 Carburettors; period flat slide carburettors and any round slide carburettor may be used.
9.14.6.5 Hydraulic Clutches will not be permitted

Juniors Recreational Class
This is a junior recreational class and per the Motorcycling Australia rules is to only include riders that are not riding in any senior class. Once a junior goes in to a senior class they forfeit all junior racing for the season for this and any other race meet.
